About the authors: Jimmy Chin

Jimmy Chin is a National Geographic photographer, an Academy Award-winning filmmaker, and a professional mountain sports athlete. For more than 20 years, he has led or participated in cutting-edge excursions all around the world. He is one of the few people who has skied Mount Everest from the summit and made the coveted first climb of the Shark's Fin on Mount Meru. His images have appeared on the covers of National Geographic and the New York Times magazines.

Jimmy and his wife, Chai Vasarhelyi, also co-produced and co-direct the film. Meru was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Free Solo received a BAFTA, seven primetime Emmys, and the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. They most recently directed and produced The Rescue, a documentary about the incredible, against-all-odds event that captivated the globe in 2018: the brave rescue of twelve boys and their coach from a flooded cave in northern Thailand.

With their daughter, Marina, and son, James, Jimmy, and Chai share their time between New York City and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
