About the authors: Frank Herbert

Frank Herbert
The Dune saga's bestselling author is Frank Herbert. He was raised in Tacoma, Washington, and attended the University of Washington in Seattle for his education. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a TV cameraman, radio commentator, oyster diver, jungle survival instructor, lay analyst, creative writing teacher, reporter, and editor for numerous West Coast newspapers.

With "Looking for Something?" in Startling Stories in 1952, Herbert began producing science fiction. However, it was not until 1965, with the publication of Dune, that he became a prominent writer. The Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune followed, bringing the epic to a close with "one of the monuments of modern science fiction," as the Chicago Tribune put it. In addition to The White Plague, The Dosadi Experiment, and Destination: Void, Herbert has written almost twenty more books. In 1986, he passed away.
