In the final battle, Alex Cross faces the all-knowing genius who has been stalking him and his family for years.

Set out into the wilds of Montana with Detective John Sampson, only to become prey.

They're on a personal quest rather than on the job.

Until they're assaulted by two opposing assassin squads, each directed by the same genius who has been stalking Alex and his family for years.

The sky darkens. Rapids churn up in the river. Shots reverberate through the woods.

About the authors: James Patterson

James Patterson
James Patterson is the best-selling author and storyteller in the world. With his Alex Cross, Michael Bennett, Women's Murder Club, Private, NYPD Red, Daniel X, Maximum Ride, and Middle School series, he has developed more enduring fictional characters than any other novelist writing today. He has sold over 380 million books worldwide and is the current Guinness World Record holder for the most #1 New York Times bestsellers. Patterson writes fiction for young readers of all ages, including the Max Einstein series, which is published in collaboration with the Albert Einstein Estate, in addition to the mystery novels for which he is best known, such as The President Is Missing with President Bill Clinton. He's also the only author to have #1 new adult and children's books on the New York Times bestseller lists at the same time.

Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, the son of an insurance salesman and a schoolteacher, and began writing casually at the age of nineteen. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1969. He was awarded a full scholarship to Vanderbilt University's English graduate program. Due to issues regarding the Vietnam War, he left Vanderbilt before completing his Ph.D.

Instead, he relocated to New York to work as a junior copywriter for the ad agency, J. Walter Thompson, eventually rising to become the company's North American CEO.

Patterson's debut novel, The Thomas Berryman Number, was published by Little, Brown, and Company in 1976, while he was still working for J. Walter Thompson. It received the Edgar Award for Best First Novel after being rejected by thirty-one publishers. Along Came a Spider is Patterson's debut novel featuring Alex Cross and also his first New York Times bestseller in fiction.

Morgan Freeman featured as Alex Cross in a cinematic adaptation of Along Came a Spider in 2001, and Tyler Perry reprised the role in Alex Cross in 2012. Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, a cinematic adaptation of Patterson's middle-grade novel, was released in theaters in October 2016.

James Patterson has contributed over one million books to students, with an emphasis on some of the country's most underserved schools and youth programs. He has given $7.25 million to school and classroom libraries across the United States, as well as $2.1 million to independent retailers and employees, to date.

Patterson has recently donated over $35 million to the University of Wisconsin, Vanderbilt University, and Manhattan College, as well as over 400 teacher and writer education scholarships at twenty-one colleges and institutions across the country. Patterson has also provided over a million books to American servicemen both at home and abroad.

Patterson started JIMMY Patterson, a children's book imprint at Little, Brown, in May 2015, to turn kids into lifelong readers. Teachers, parents, librarians, and booksellers will benefit from the materials, ideas, and activities available through this imprint. Patterson donates revenues from JIMMY Patterson Books to pro-reading organizations.

Patterson also developed ReadKiddoRead.com, a website that aims to inspire a new generation of readers by providing resources for parents, teachers, and libraries. The site, which has been honored with the National Book Foundation's Innovations in Reading Prize and the American Library Association's Great Websites for Kids, includes thoughtful book reviews from a variety of genres and age groups, as well as a large and active Facebook community and contributions from other authors.

Patterson has won numerous prizes for both adult and children's fiction, including the Edgar Award and the International Book Award.
