Mel Brooks, a director, producer, writer, and actor, is an EGOT—one of only a few celebrities to win all four major entertainment awards: the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. He began his career as a television writer for Your Show of Shows and then went on to help establish the TV show Get Smart. He and Carl Reiner co-wrote and performed the Grammy-winning comedy album "Year Old Man" in 2000. Brooks earned an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for The Producers, his debut feature picture. The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, History of the World Part I, To Be or Not to Be, Spaceballs, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights were among the many popular comedies that followed. Brooksfilms Limited, his production firm, was responsible for critically praised films such as The Elephant Man, Frances, My Favorite Year, and 84 Charing Cross Road.
