A highly imaginative thriller from the critically acclaimed author of The Book of M about a young woman who discovers an incredible, deadly secret hidden in a strange map in her deceased father's belongings—one that will lead her on an extraordinary adventure and reveal the truth about her family's dark history.

What is a map's function?
Cartography is Nell Young's life's work and greatest passion. Nell's father, Dr. Daniel Young, is a medical icon and her personal hero. But she hasn't seen or spoken to him since he dismissed her and ruined her reputation over a disagreement about an old, cheap gas station highway map.

But Nell can't help herself when Dr. Young is discovered dead in his office at the New York Public Library, with the same seemingly worthless map stashed in his desk. She quickly learns that the map is extremely valuable and extremely uncommon, much to her astonishment. She might have the only copy left... because a mystery collector has been tracking down and eliminating every last copy—along with everybody who gets in the path.

But why is that?
To find an answer to that question, Nell sets out on a perilous adventure to uncover a terrible family secret and discover the true power of maps.

The Cartographers is a spectacularly imaginative, modern story about an ancient craft and places still undiscovered, perfect for fans of Joe Hill and V. E. Schwab. It is an ode to art and science, history and magic—a spectacularly imaginative, modern story about an ancient craft and places still undiscovered.
