Diane Macedo, a renowned ABC News anchor/correspondent, and former insomniac have written a practical, user-friendly guide to improve sleep. The Sleep Fix flips the script on conventional wisdom, shedding light on the reporter's never-ending quest for a decent night's sleep and the surprising, scientific, and practical remedies she discovered along the way.

Thirty percent of the population is estimated to suffer from insomnia, with much more unknowingly suffering from various sleep disorders. In The Sleep Fix, Macedo aims to change that with paradigm-shifting research and simple-to-implement solutions based not only on science and experts but also on her years of struggle.

Macedo learned the hard way as an early-morning reporter and nightly news anchor how important sleep is and how it impacts everything from our hearts to our brains to our immune systems. The longer Macedo fought, the worse her health became. Desperate, she attempted typical sleep tips after standard sleep tips, but none of them helped; in fact, they made her worse.
After acquiring resistance to sleeping drugs, Macedo decided to take on the problem as a journalist, interviewing sleep experts from around the world to figure out what's keeping us awake—and how to fix it.

As Macedo says, getting enough sleep isn't as simple as cutting out caffeine or putting your phone away before bed. Instead, with her down-to-earth explanations and sense of humor, she shows us how to:
• Understand the biology of sleep.
• Recognize sleep-related issues
• Recognize sleep myths and differentiate between fact and fiction.
• Experiment using unconventional methods.
• We must change our thinking.
Most importantly, Macedo teaches us how to adapt and integrate these ideas into our daily lives as busy working parents. The Sleep Fix is the straight-talking guide this sleep-deprived world has been waiting for, with professional knowledge, cutting-edge research, intimate sleep experiences from public figures, and effective guidance.

About the authors: Diane Macedo

Diane Macedo
Diane Macedo is an Emmy Award-winning ABC News journalist and anchor who has been on Good Morning America, ABC World News Tonight, Nightline, World News Now, and America This Morning, among other programs, as well as breaking news reports. She also works for ABC News Live as a daytime anchor.

Diane is the last person anyone expected to write about sleep, having been a lifelong night owl who has worked practically every schedule imaginable. But she's also a tad headstrong, obsessed with life hacks, and can't leave a puzzle incomplete. It's no wonder, then, that she set out to find solutions to her insomnia and didn't stop until she'd produced a book full of them. Diane can be found singing, hiking, cooking, or simply spending time with family and friends when she isn't chasing the news or attempting to accomplish too many things at once.

Reviews: The Sleep Fix

In The Sleep Fix, Macedo mixes an honest depiction of her struggles with sleeplessness with straightforward, actionable advice from sleep experts. The Sleep Fix clears up much of the uncertainty surrounding insomnia by correcting the ill-advice that is common online with a "no fluff" approach. Macedo offers a comprehensive list of practical sleep advice that incorporates science, expert counsel, and personal experience. She describes how these sleep strategies work in detail so that readers may simply adapt them to their own lives. This book could truly save the life of anyone suffering from insomnia, especially those who work night shifts. -- Dr. Thomas Dickson (Phd), Musicologist at the University of New South Wales

A helpful, funny, and motivating book about sleeping well. The Sleep Fix delivers actionable, straightforward advice based on sound science and thoughtful human experience, rather than rehashing the same old sleep hygiene platitudes. As a psychologist who specializes in insomnia, I can't recommend many books about sleep, but this is one of them. -- Nick Wignall, board-certified psychologist specializing in treatment of anxiety and insomnia

This book's guidance is dead on. Diane Macedo has an uncanny ability to condense sleep research into easy-to-understand counsel.-- Jennifer Mundt, PhD, Center for Circadian and Sleep Medicine, Northwestern University

I've been hoping for a book like "The Sleep Fix" for a long time. Diane provides science-based and practical explanations for the most prevalent sleep disorders, frequently in ways that are far superior to those provided by many of us sleep specialists. It's chock-full of practical answers based on research and clinical experience from dozens of sleep medicine's brightest minds. Diane's caring, authoritative, yet lighthearted tone instills true optimism in her message: if she can conquer her sleep issues, so can her readers.-- Jade Wu, PHD, clinical psychologist and board-certified behavioral sleep medicine specialist

The Sleep Fix is a delightfully educational read that gave me something I didn't realize I needed: sleep reeducation!-- Kofi Kingston, WWE Superstar

This book is crucial, as a narcoleptic can attest. The Sleep Fix not only has Diane's credibility as a mother and a master of overnight shifts, but it also focuses on what should be at the bottom of our health pyramid: diagnosing and managing sleep disorders so that we can get great sleep. -- Ginger Zee, ABC News Chief Meteorologist

Diane Macedo, my distinguished colleague, has done her homework. I, like many others, have trouble sleeping. After reading The Sleep Fix, I no longer dread going to bed. Surprising solutions, to be sure!-- Robin Roberts, ABC's Good Morning America

Diane Macedo, my distinguished colleague, has done her homework. I, like asleep, believe that apex predator of healthy habits. It's often ignored, but it's crucial. My longstanding colleague Diane Macedo outlines a series of intelligent and flexible techniques we can all customize to our benefit, using both anecdote and science. Many others have trouble sleeping. After reading The Sleep Fix, I no longer dread going to bed. Surprising solutions, to be sure! -- Dan Harris, author of 10% Happier
