The New York Times bestselling author of George Washington's Secret Six and Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates now turns his attention to Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two more national heroes.

Brian Kilmeade's book, The President and the Freedom Fighter, chronicles the little-known story of how two American heroes went from bitter rivalry to friendship, changing the course of history in the process.

Abraham Lincoln was a white man who grew up on a poor frontier farm. Frederick Douglass was a black man who risked his life to flee to freedom in the North as a child of slavery. Neither guy had received a formal education, nor had he had an easy path to power. No one could have predicted that they would become friends—or that they would change the country. Lincoln and Douglass, on the other hand, believed in the greatness of their country. They were hell-bent on ensuring that the vast democratic experiment lived up to its lofty goals.

The dilemma for Lincoln was that he understood it was time to abolish slavery, but how quickly could the country adapt without tearing itself apart? Is it possible to abolish slavery while maintaining the United States Constitution? No, Douglass responded, since slavery had irreversibly tainted the Constitution, and he urged Lincoln to act soon. The two men's paths eventually converged, sharing little more than the conviction that slavery was immoral. They would face violent mobs, heated conspiracies, horrific military casualties, and a gathering firestorm of unrest that would culminate on the fields of Gettysburg during the Civil War.

Kilmeade has transformed this nearly forgotten piece of history into a dramatic story that will keep you turning the pages to find out how these two heroes, through their principles and patience, not only changed each other, but made America truly free for all, as he did in George Washington's Secret Six.

Kilmeade was a key figure in FOX's coverage of September 11th, as well as reporting from combat zones in the Middle East and over a dozen military facilities across the country. He has also supplied live coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Kilmeade, who also serves as the network's sports anchor, has covered or reported on every major American sport during the last two decades.

The Games Do Count: America's Best & Brightest On The Power Of Sports (2004), Kilmeade's debut book, was a New York Times best-seller and features over seventy stories from America's top leaders and those closest to them. Kilmeade exposes a simple but compelling truth: America's brightest have not only worked hard but also played hard.

His companion book, It's How You Play the Game: The Powerful Sports Moments That Taught America's Finest Lasting Values (2007), tells the personal stories of athletes, CEOs, actors, politicians, and historical figures about how what they learned on the field prepared them to handle life and overcome adversity with courage, dignity, and sportsmanship. "This book taught me more about some of my favorite leaders than any profile of them I had ever read," Sports Illustrated remarked of it.

Kilmeade began his career as a correspondent for Channel One, a daily national high school television news program, after graduating from Long Island University. He later worked for KHSC-TV in Ontario, California, as an anchor and host. Brian previously worked as a sports talk radio broadcaster for XTRA-AM 690, where he co-hosted The Jim Brown Show.

He was a feature reporter and anchor for Newsport TV, where he hosted Newsport Journal, the national sports network's daily magazine show. Scoreboard Central, a live half-hour general sports program, was also hosted by him.

In addition to his journalism profession, Kilmeade has ten years of stand-up comedy experience. He still coaches soccer in Massapequa, where he lives with his family.
