After toying with the concept for years and even offering a few dubious opportunities ( "It's as easy as pie! Simply do four hours of interviews, hire someone to write the book, and put your face on the cover, and voila! "( )I've decided to write these stories in my hand, as I've always done. The delight I've gotten from writing these stories is similar to listening to a song I've recorded and can't wait to share with the world, or reading a crude journal entry from a stained notebook, or even hearing my voice bounce between the Kiss posters on my childhood wall.

This doesn't mean I'm quitting my day job, but it does allow me a space to reflect on what it's like to be a child from Springfield, Virginia, going through life while pursuing my wildest goals as a young artist. From touring with Scream as a teenager to working with Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, jamming with Iggy Pop or performing at the Academy Awards, dancing with AC/DC and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, drumming for Tom Petty, or meeting Sir Paul McCartney at the Royal Albert Hall, bedtime stories with Joan Jett or a chance meeting with Little Richard, to flying halfway around the world for one epic night with my daughters...the list goes on. With great anticipation, I look forward to sharpening the lens through which I see these experiences for you.

Since his recorded debut with Nirvana in 1991's generation-defining Nevermind, Dave Grohl has been one of the most beloved and recognized characters in international music. The Colour & The Shape (1997), There Is Nothing Left To Lose (1999), One By One (2002), In Your Honor (2005), Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007), Wasting Light (2011), Sonic Highways (2014), Concrete and Gold (2017), and, most recently, Medicine at Midnig (2021).

Grohl has a well-deserved reputation for being a prolific collaborator: "Cut Me Some Slack," written and recorded with Paul McCartney and Grohl's Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear; Them Crooked Vultures, formed with Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones and Queens of the Stone Age's Joshua Homme, late Motorhead legends David Bowie and Lemmy Kilmister, as well as.

Grohl debuted as a movie director/producer in 2013 with the critically acclaimed documentary Sound City. Nirvana's Nevermind, which sold more than 30 million copies and changed the modern musical landscape, was recorded in a Van Nuys, California studio in 1991. Sound City, which premiered to a standing ovation at Sundance and has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating, focused on both the history of the iconic studio and the ongoing fight to retain the human element of music. The New York Times called it "sugar to several generations' worth of rock fans," while NPR called it "a celebration of just how awesome it is to make rock music for a job," with Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calling it an "exhilarating documentary about what makes life worth living." The RIAA has recently recognized Sound City as a Gold Longform Video, and the Sound City—Real To Reel companion album won Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Rock Song (“Cut Me Some Slack”) at the 2013 Grammys.

Grohl also directed Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, an eight-part HBO docuseries that debuted in October 2014 and won two of the four Emmys for which it was nominated (outstanding sound mixing for nonfiction programming and outstanding sound editing for nonfiction programming). Sonic Highways was comprised of eight one-hour episodes, each chronicling the creation of one song on Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways album, each written and recorded in a different American musical landmark — Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. — as described by Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music.
