A gripping debut fantasy inspired by the legend of Change, the Chinese moon goddess, in which a young woman's quest to free her mother pits her against the realm's most powerful immortal and leads her down a perilous path—where decisions have deadly consequences and she risks losing more than her heart.

Xingyin is used to living alone, having grown up on the moon, unaware that she is being kept from the mighty Celestial Emperor who exiled her mother for stealing his immortality elixir. However, when Xingyin's power ignites and her existence is revealed, she is compelled to depart her home, abandoning her mother.

She travels to the Celestial Kingdom, a world of wonder and mystery, alone, inexperienced, and terrified. She disguises herself and seizes an opportunity to practice archery and magic alongside the Crown Prince, even as passion flares between her and the emperor's son.

Xingyin embarks on a treacherous mission to save her mother, encountering legendary animals and ferocious foes across the land and skies. When the kingdom is threatened by treachery and forbidden magic, she must confront the cruel Celestial Emperor about her dream, forging a perilous bargain in which she must choose between losing everything she loves and sending the nation into chaos.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess is the first installment of a fascinating, romantic duology that blends ancient Chinese mythology into a sweeping story of immortals and magic, of loss and sacrifice—where love battles honor, dreams are tainted by betrayal and hope triumphs.

About the Author

Sue Lynn Tan

Sue Lynn Tan creates fantasy novels based on myths and legends that she grew up loving. She was born in Malaysia and studied in London and France before settling with her family in Hong Kong.
Her fascination with stories began with a gift from her father: a collection of fairytales from all over the world. She discovered fantasy novels after eating every fable she could find in the library and spent most of her childhood trapped in fantastic realms.
Her debut novel, Daughter of the Moon Goddess, will be released by Harper Voyager in January 2022, with a sequel planned. It's a story of love, family, immortals, and magic, based on the popular mythology of Change, the Chinese moon goddess, who flew to the moon after drinking the elixir of immortality.
She enjoys exploring the many hills, lakes, and temples around her house when she is not writing or reading. She is also grateful to be close to bubble tea and spicy food, which she is unable to prepare.
