Anatomy: A Love Story by Dana Schwartz is a gothic tale full of mystery and passion.

Hazel Sinnett is a woman who is more interested in becoming a surgeon than in marrying.

Jack Currer is a resurrectionist who is only trying to stay alive in a city where death is all too common.

At first, Hazel dismisses a fortuitous encounter between the two of them outside the Edinburgh Anatomist's Society. However, after being ejected from renowned surgeon Dr. Beecham's lectures for being the incorrect gender, she discovers that her new acquaintance may be more useful than she initially believed. Because Hazel has made a deal with Dr. Beecham to allow her to continue her medical profession if she can pass the medical exams on her own, Hazel will need more than just her books if she doesn't have access to official lectures; she'll need corpses to study.

She's fortunate that she's met someone who digs them up for a living.

Strange individuals have been seen lurking around cemeteries, their pals are missing from the streets, and the deadly Roman Fever, which killed millions a few years ago, has returned with a fury. Until Hazel, no one was concerned.

Now Hazel and Jack must work together to unearth the mysteries buried not just in unmarked graves, but deep inside Edinburgh society.
