The New York Times Best Seller
"A scholar's devotion to The Iliad and a shockingly innovative piece of art...A book I couldn't put down." —Ann Patchett, author of The Dutch House
From the bestselling author of Circe comes an exciting, immensely poignant, and unique retelling of the legend of Achilles and the Trojan War.

Achilles is the son of the ruthless sea goddess Thetis and the legendary king Peleus, and is known as "the best of all Greeks."He is strong, fast, and attractive, and those who meet him find him fascinating. Patroclus is a shy young prince who has been exiled from his realm following a horrible act of violence. Despite incurring the gods' wrath, they form an unbreakable relationship after being brought together by accident.

They are taught the techniques of war and medicine by the centaur Chiron, but when word arrives that Helen of Sparta has been stolen, all of Greece's heroes are summoned to lay siege to Troy in her honor. Achilles, seduced by the promise of a magnificent future, join their cause, and Patroclus, torn between love and dread for his buddy, follows. They have no idea that the cruel Fates are about to put them to the ultimate test and demand a horrific sacrifice.
